Mike “Vinny” Vines originally hails from the San Francisco Bay Area.  After retiring early, his wife agreed for them to move to Kona, so that he could take up a career in his favorite hobby: Diving.  Vinny is a very experienced (and locally well known) Captain and Master Scuba Diver Trainer.   You'll always find him in a good mood, because he strongly believes that “every day of life is a gift, so cherish it”.

He has a few favorite dive sites, but if he had to pick just one, it would probably be ....  the whole Pine Trees area of the Kona Coast.  Whew! That covers a lot of great dive sites.

One of Vinny's top picks for local “ONO GRINDZ” (delicious food) is Bongo Ben's (just south of the volleyball courts on Ali'i Drive).  It also has a full bar and a great view of Makai (the water).  Best of all, its inexpensive.

For a day 'off of the water' he recommends a trip to Akaka Falls.   It's an easy (paved) walk through a beautiful Rain Forest and YES there are water falls.  It's located 11 miles before Hilo, if traveling around the north coast.

Bend his ear when you're with him on the boat.  He loves this island and hasn't been off the Island, but only twice in a decade.
